PicturePost: Missing Russia…

Posted by Josefina

Да, дамы и господа [Yes, ladies and gentlemen] – it’s been too long since a classic picturepost was posted in this blog. That’s why I thought I’d take today to post a couple of pictures of the things I miss most about Russia, well aware that this will most likely make it rather biased. So be it! After almost two months away from the Motherland, I am craving all things Russian and can’t wait to go back. Yes, Sweden is good (as are many other Western countries, like the Netherlands and USA, for example) – streets and air are clean, there is always toilet paper in public restrooms, people excuse themselves when YOU bump into them, you can pay with your creditcard everywhere (even in church!) and order prevails in all areas of life and society. In other words – скучно [it is boring]! After all, can a fellow Russophile fail to understand why I wake up craving thick, deep red borsh with smetana and cheap tickets to see Swan Lake in the middle of the night? No, I didn’t think so. So here it is – «Русские вещи, по которым я скучаю» [Russian things that I miss]:

«Ездить поездом» [To travel by train].

«Природа Сибири» [The Nature of Siberia].

altay.jpg

«Алтайские горы» [Altay Mountains].

dedmoroz.jpg

«Встретить Деда Мороза со Снегурочкой ночью на Новый Год» [To meet ’Ded Moroz’ with the Snow Maiden during the night at New Year].

lenin.jpg

«Ленин и прочие советские памятники» [Lenin and other Soviet Monuments].

winter.jpg

«Зима» [Winter].

love.jpg

«Я люблю тебя написано на улице» [I love you written on the street].

pavlovsk.jpg

«Осень в Павловске» [Fall in Pavlovsk].

orthodoxchurch.jpg

«Православные церкви» [Orthodox churches].

tea.jpg

«Чайпитье» [Tea-drinking].

«Но больше всего – русские!» [But most of all – Russians!]

Though I should probably ask everyone what they miss most about Russia, I am not sure everyone is as attached to the Motherland [Родина] as I am. Instead I ask - what do you like most about Russia? Have anything to add to my list above?

Food. Definitely the food. Too tedious and too time consuming to make by oneself. But oh-so-delish!
And I totally forgot about those lovely cup holders, like in the first photo.

    Dear Russian Blogger:
I have been reading your blog for over a year now, and I always look forward to it. I rely on it to reinforce and update my fragile Russian reading ability.
May I say, that if most people in the world were like you, and would devote themselves to learning and loving another culture, this would be a great stride toward forming the ONE WORLD the human race is destined to recognize and inhabit.
Thank you, thank you, for your work and the spirit of love you bring to all of us who are fascinated by Russia and its language.

I miss all those, but also all the moss in the forests - and just being able to go into a forest and know that somewhere in the same forest, there is (sleeping I hope) a bear. And bookshops and always the people and the way they walk , (and sometimes drive,) whether or not there is a path (or road) directly to where they are going! Peggy

If you changed the bike to a photo of my beloved, I would agree 100%.
