A Filial is an up-and-coming hip-hop band from Rio de Janeiro who recently released a new album, $1,99. Some members of the group grew up in Rio’s bohemian Santa Teresa neighborhood, and their music reflects a variety of genres, including bossa nova, jazz, tropicalia, rock, and rap. They first got started by releasing an album with Verge Records, which supports international artists.

The Logo network’s website, TripOutGayTravel.com, part of the MTV network, elected Rio de Janeiro as the Best Global Destination City for gay travelers this week, beating Buenos Aires, Barcelona, London, Montreal, and Sydney. The election took place at the International LGBT Tourism Conference in Boston.
The announcement comes on the heels of Rio’s Olympic selection win, as well as being named the “Happiest City in the World” by Forbes. It will also play host to several games during the 2014 World Cup to be held in Brazil.
Eduardo Paes, the mayor of Rio, was delighted by the news. “It recognizes the hospitality of our people, who make everyone feel at home. I’m proud and pleased to be the mayor of such a welcoming city that respects and values differences.”
The announcement also came right after Rio’s annual gay pride parade, held on Sunday in Copacabana.

One sure way to get Brazilians and Brazilophiles talking is by asking the controversial question: which city do you prefer, Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo? So for today’s interactive feature, that’s the question at hand! 
The question isn’t intended to imply that one city is better than the other (although some people from each city have that opinion). It is simply a question about personal preference: the beach vs. the urban center, outdoor sports vs. cultural sites, etc.

Today’s the day, folks! The International Olympic Committee will decide which city will host the 2016 Summer Olympics: Rio de Janeiro, Chicago, Madrid, or Tokyo. For the last few months, Rio and Chicago have pulled ahead of the other two cities, with Rio often in the lead. However, now that President Obama will fly to Copenhagen, where the decision will be made, Chicago has pulled ahead with a slight lead over Rio. 
Nevertheless, the race is “too close to call,” and it’s a mystery as to which city will actually be chosen. The voting process will begin early tomorrow morning, and the winner will be announced at 12:30PM EST. (For more information on the voting process, click here)
