They are also lovely creatures, underappreciated and often despised to the point of destruction. One program, a independant branch of LIPU (lega italiana protezione ucelli) is working in Rome's Villa Ada to recover bats injured or in need of recuperation time before being re-introduced into the "wild", ie natural areas of Rome. It is a small, but dedicated group of volunteers and a director who gives her heart, soul and know how to make the most of what little they have (just a structure..nothing else -- no water, electricity, etc). More information can be accessed through LIPU. Check out my blog above (in rough Italian) and lend a hand!
