What is love? One objectively definition is that Liebe (love) is the strongest Zuneigung (affection) and personal Verbundenheit (attachment) that a human can have toward another human or animal. Some people even say that love is not an Gefühl (emotion) but a rational variable, so to speak. No matter what it is in the end, you would certainly agree that there are different nuances of love. In other words, we love our parents, friends, partners, pets, or even a particular public personality like a singer, a musician, an actor, an artist, etc. but at the same time we would attest that we don’t love all of them to the same degree or in the same way.

We love our parents because they guide us through the first years of our lives and we can always count on them, no matter in what life situation we are. We love our friends because they share interests with us, they can understand us better than our parents because they are in a similar life situation, and we can confide our thoughts and secrets to them. We love our partners for their tenderness and the butterflies they cause in our stomachs. We love our pets for their unconditional loyalty. And we love our favorite TV series because it makes us laugh or cry.
