“Guten Tag” German Blog readers…
I’d like to introduce myself as one of your new bloggers here.
As a German residing in the United states since 1992 it has become an interesting journey so far for myself, along the way having picked up English Language when moving to the US, like many people from different nations coming to America.
From culture, language and habits, we are all used to in our own home country, I hope to share some insight with you of some of the interesting facts of these two nations, things that some of you might already know, yet will make you laugh, ponder but also educate you of the Language, dialects and diversity, but also the influence these two countries have on each other. From news and hardships people on both sides face when relocating to the US or Germany, one thing Germans can’t find is real ” leberwurst ” in the US. Do you agree?
So stay for more and hope you will enjoy the ride with us!

Sandra
Leberwurst { Liverwurst }

I hope to be able to move to Germany one day. I’m studying in Germany right now, and even after only a week I can already say that I LOVE it here!
I also have to say, though, that I do not like Leberwurst.
It is also nearly impossible to find quark. And I like leberwurst but I never actually tried to buy any in the States.

Hi Sandra, I agree about the Leberwurst. I did find some at a SAV A LOT store that was better than most. The Broadway Market in Buffalo New York has genuine ethnic foods. The best I’ve found anywhere. My family came from Germany and Hungary and I know how hard it is to find certain foods like in the old country. Buffalo is the only place I know. Another item hard to get is Limburger, the real stuff. I sometimes can find the imported from Germany. And where is the good German Beer??Hard to find the real stuff too.
Lebe seit1963 in USA, geb. Potsdamer. Leber Wurst can man eigentlich ueber all finden. Sogar Luebecker Marzipan, hier in San Diego giebt es auch einige Deutsche Restaurants. Wir haben hier auch einen Berliner Der verkauft ein gefuehrte Fein Schmecker Wuerste.In bestimmten

I have a very good friend (20 yrs) who grew up in Berlin. We both love liverwurst. I settle for the yellow packaged stuff in Safeway but I admit it’s not that great. If you ever hear about any really good liverwurst on the web, please let me know. I would definitely be interested. One thing I love is to gently saute organic chicken livers with salt and pepper and finely chopped onions. Saute slowly and let the onions dry out a bit and caramelize. YUM!
Look forward to more of your postings.

Thanks everyone for your comments! yes it can be easy or difficult in finding the true stuff! Often a replica is out there, depends also what region of german we are all from:-).
What you can try is germandeli. But they don’t import meats ( Against regulations ) or fish. But Quark is actually made in Washington State.
