What is List Central? The Byki List Central community is an online repository of freely available user created content. Teachers or anyone who uses Byki Deluxe Edition or Byki Educator Edition can create flash card lists and share them with the community. Thousands of lists have already been posted, and many more are added every day. These lists can be great resources for educators. For example, hundreds of lists containing the chapter vocabulary from popular language textbooks such as Realidades, Bien dit, ¡Exprésate!, Komm Mit, and more are already available for you to use at no additional cost. Check to see if the vocabulary from the textbook you use is available on List Central. If not, consider adding it to benefit your students and others. You can also find many themed lists that may complement the topics of your lessons. For example, if your students are studying a chapter that discusses dining, you may be able to find food-related lists to teach them additional vocabulary. Similarly, when you are focusing on grammar, you may want to look for lists that show the conjugated forms of various verbs, or the plural forms of common nouns.

How do I find lists posted on List Central? It's easy to search our database for useful lists. After you have logged into Byki Online with your administrator credentials, go to Byki Lists/Search Lists and search all lists on List Central. Narrow down your search results using keywords, languages, list names, and other attributes. By entering the terms you are interested in, you can quickly find content that may be useful for your classes. You can also search just for your own lists, or for lists posted by another specific user. Remember, new lists are being posted on List Central all the time, so be sure to check back often on your favorite topics!

Can I create and customize my own lists?

Yes. If you have Byki Deluxe Edition or Byki Educator Edition installed on your computer, you can create customized lists that fit your exact needs, share them using List Central, then download them to Byki Online and assign them to your students.

For example, you might create vocabulary lists for the chapters within your textbook(s), if such lists haven't already been posted. Alternatively, do you need weekly word lists? Fact lists to prepare students for standardized tests? Vocabulary in a language no other software program supports? Something completely unique to your class, that no pre-made list could possibly cover? Any time you find yourself with a set of facts that you really want your students to know, make it into a flash card list. The possibilities are endless!

Can I assign List Central lists to my students? Yes. You have the ability to assign List Central lists that you have loaded to your students. Go to the Classes drop-down menu. Select Assign Lists. Select your class from the drop down list. Find the list you wish to add, and then assign the list to your class. You have the ability to assign multiple lists at once using the Ctrl key on a PC or the Command key on a Mac.

How do my students access the lists? All your students have to do is log in to Byki Online and open the lists that you assign to them. This unique setup lets all of your students benefit from the same application - in a lab, or at home on their own - as many times as they need, at no cost to them. It's easy, it's fast, and it's fun. Students can have any number of lists, all in the same application, which they can use on either Windows or Macintosh computers with Internet access.

Does List Central have any vocabulary lists from the textbooks I use in my classes? Simply search for the title of your textbook to see if it's already covered. Currently, List Central has numerous free chapter vocabulary lists for textbooks including: Bien Dit, ¡Exprésate!, Realidades, Komm Mit, Ecce Romani, Ven Conmigo, Allez Viens, The Practical Chinese Reader, and more.

Do I need a Byki Online subscription to use List Central?

No. List Central is free for anyone. It has a limited-feature version of our Byki learning program that allows anyone to learn from any list that has been posted to List Central website.

Do I need a List Central account to post lists?

Yes. To post a list you have created using Byki Deluxe or Byki Educator Edition, you will need to create a List Central account before you can post your lists online.

Do my students need to have List Central accounts to access the lists?

No. If you choose to assign lists you find on List Central to your students, they will access them the same way they would access the lists that come with the Byki Online subscription.

These lists can also be accessed directly through List Central without creating an account. However, you will not be able to track your students using this method. There are also other features, such as the activities, that are not available to List Central users. Assigning the lists with Byki Online will be much more beneficial to you and your students.

How do I know that lists posted by other users are of good quality?

The Community List area is available for anyone to use. Transparent Language doesn't check or correct those lists. In practice that would be very difficult, even if we had the manpower to do so, since the numbers of languages and topics are substantial.

However, every list has a rating feature that allows fellow teachers or users to rate the quality of the list. Not all lists have been rated, leaving thousands of unrated lists for you to explore. Feel free to rate any list yourself!

Of course, if a list is created by Transparent, we will correct any errors that we find or that people make us aware of.

What are tags?

A tag is similar to a keyword. Anyone who posts a list to List Central has the option to add tags to their lists. These tags allow users to easily find a list. If you create a list you want to assign to your students, you can add tags to easily find and download it to Byki Online. This is a great way to locate a particular list, and can save you time because you won't need to sort through hundreds of lists to find the one you want.

Can I remove my lists from List Central?

Within your List Central profile, you have the ability to delete any list you have shared to the website.
