How to Drive a Teacher Crazy in an Arabic Conversation! Posted by on Apr 20, 2012 in Arabic Language, Culture, Vocabulary

Let’s get this straight:

Teachers are not there to be made fun of.

In fact, being a teacher is truly a noble profession.

The “Prince of Arab Poets“, Ahmed Chawki, is renown for having once said:

“Stand Up for Your Teacher to Offer The Due Respect

For the Teacher is Virtually a Prophet”

Unfortunately, not all students realize this important fact. Not all of them know the true meaning of الأخــــــلاق (good manners), and not all of them are exactly “model students.”

Some of them are a real pain in the neck: مشاغبــــــــــون (rascals)!

Besides, not all the teachers are up to the challenging task of teaching, and very few of them are endowed with a sense of humor…

Finally, none of them are معصــــــومون (infallible) as are the Prophets!

The following conversation between a primary school teacher and his student may serve to illustrate this point quite effectively:

The teacher: “You, go and bring me something to drink”

The student: “Coke or Pepsi, Sir?”

The teacher: “I just want something to drink. It doesn’t matter, Coke or Pepsi”

The student: “Zero or regular”

The teacher: “Regular”

The student: “Plastic or glass?”

The teacher: “Plastic”

The student: “One litter or 2 litters?”

The teacher: “It doesn’t matter, bring me a bottle of water!”

The student: “Mineral or tap?”

The teacher: “Mineral”

The student: “Cold or warm?”

The teacher: “You want me to hit you?”

The student: “With the stick or with the shoe?”

The teacher: “You truly are an animal!”

The student: “A cow, a giraffe, or what?”

The teacher: “Get out of the classroom, now!”

The student: “Through the window or the door?”

The teacher: “I’m gonna kill you, son”

The student: “With a regular knife or with a butcher’s knife?”

The teacher: “With a butcher’s knife”

The student: “In my belly or in my head ?”

The teacher: “You truly are a catastrophe!”

The student: “An earthquake, a Tsunami, or a volcano?”

(…)

At which point the teacher فقد صوابــــــــــه (totally lost his mind) and left the classroom running…
