Language-Learning Content Development

Emerging technologies and methods now allow and encourage language learning at whatever time and place the need or opportunity arises.

  • How do we leverage this new flexibility to decrease the language-learning time and increase the effectiveness, relevance, and enjoyment of the learning experience, without losing the humanity and motivation that the instructor-student relationship provided?

  • In brief, how do we conceive of, develop and deliver the new-era of dispersed, effective language learning?

Successful candidate(s) will be intelligent, creative, energetic and articulate, as demonstrated by superior academic and work performance. Awareness of current language-learning issues, theory or pedagogy is a plus, especially in combination with an active openness to new ideas and points of view.

Language Education

Advanced Concepts Development: Foreign Language Learning

Job Code – GJ-ACD

Individual contributor candidates are being considered in Advanced Concepts Development related to language-learning pedagogies, technologies, processes, materials, content and tools.

The means and methods for language learning and maintenance (aka language acquisition, sustainment and enhancement) are changing rapidly in this new era of ubiquitous computing and communications.

The traditional classroom or tutoring approach required teacher and learner to meet in the same place at the same time for many sessions over a long period of time. Now, new technologies allow people to learn language at whatever time and place the need or opportunity arises.

How do we leverage this new flexibility to increase a person’s language-learning time, effectiveness, relevance and enjoyment, without losing the humanity and motivation that the instructor-student relationship provided? In the future, what technology infrastructures and content sets will best support the wide spectrum of available learning regimens -- from fully independent learning, to remotely-guided instruction, to distance learning, to classroom learning? In brief, how do we conceive of, develop and deliver the new-era of dispersed, effective language learning?

Successful candidate(s) will be intelligent, creative, energetic and articulate, as demonstrated by superior academic and work performance. Bachelor degree is expected; higher degrees preferred. Awareness of current language-learning issues, theory or pedagogy is a plus, especially in combination with an active openness to new ideas and points of view. Other positives include proficiency in one or more non-native languages, technology competence and awareness, superior English writing ability, self-management and leadership skills, and a desire to change things for the better.
